Online Privacy and Security

As we rely on the Internet more frequently to conduct business and interact with others, the dangers posed by computer hackers, spyware, viruses and other malicious software become more serious. If unchecked, these dangers can threaten personal information and privacy, as well as the security of computer hardware and software. It is important that all consumers take basic steps to secure their computers and network connections.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has created a new online privacy and security webpage, which can be accessed at www.fcc.gov/consumers. Once there, click on the link titled "Privacy and Online Security." This webpage provides useful information for consumers and small businesses regarding online safety and cybersecurity. Over the next several weeks, the FCC will be rolling out tip sheets, checklists, videos, screencasts, and blog postings addressing several topics, including:

- Protecting Children in the Digital Age
- Protecting Wi-Fi Networks
- Safe Internet Navigation and Transactions
- Tips for Infected Computers or Networks
- Best Practices for Small Business Cybersecurity
- Tips for Using the Internet Abroad

This webpage also contains links to other sources of information regarding online security and privacy, and we encourage you to visit it regularly to view the updates. You may also wish to bookmark www.fcc.gov/consumers, as we will continuously update the page with the latest news and information for consumers.
